Common Council

Council members (Alderpersons), are elected each April to serve two-year terms. Two Alders are elected from each of the four districts that make up the City of Evansville. Terms are two year staggered with one reappointment from each district every election. The Mayor is also elected to a two year term on even years.

 

Meetings/Agendas

Meetings are typically held on the second Tuesday of each month. The third Tuesday of April, Council meets for a special re-organization session.  Agendas, Packets, and Minutes can be found here.

 

How to Run for Local Public Office

  • Review Wisconsin candidate eligibility
  • Local candidates should visit the Local Campaign Finance page on the Wisconsin Ethics Commission website for information about campaign finance registration and reporting.
  • Complete Nomination Paper for Nonpartisan Office, which is a circulation paper to collect signatures for Nonpartisan Office: https://elections.wi.gov/forms/EL-169
  • Registered Write-In Candidates -- to be a registered write-in candidate for an election, all local candidates must file a Campaign Registration Statement with their local clerk by 12:00 p.m. (noon) the Friday before the election.

Important Dates

  • June 25, 2026 Absentee ballots mailed to all voters with requests on file.
  • July 22, 2026 Last day to register to vote online or through the mail prior to the Partisan Primary. Voter registration remains available at absentee voting sites through the Friday before Election Day, and at the polls on Election Day.
  • August 7, 2026 Last day to be a registered write-in candidate for the August 11, 2026 Partisan Primary Election, all local candidates must file a Campaign Registration Statement with their local clerk by 12:00 p.m. (noon) the Friday before the election. 
  • August 11, 2026 Partisan Primary Election.
